This Month we worked on our two new pieces Palladio by Karl Jenkins and Irish Folk Medley by Jeremy Sparks. Considering that this was our first play through, they went extremely well and Stephen decided to keep them in the programme.
It is excellent that more people are bravely taking the opportunity to perform their solos. This month we had no shortage of volunteers to perform.
- Valerie and Stephen played Duet no.1, opus 34 by Carulli
- Valerie played Ejercicio by Ferrer
- Howard played Allegretto, opus 35 by Sor
- Julie played Andante, opus 44 by Sor
- Sarah played Coeur de la Rose by Garcia
- Margaret played Capricho Arabe by Tarrega
- Matthew played Bouree by Bergen
- Gina played Andante by Carulli
- Stephen played Scottish Suite by Kenyon

Summer Concert - July 6th
Yes, summer is almost here again. Our DGS members’ concert is our main fundraising event of the year so please remember to tell all your friends and family. Tickets and posters will be available at the June meeting. The cost of a ticket will be the same as last year at £4 and £3 concessions. Last year our concert was very well attended by the local Kinson community, so hopefully they will be back again this year for another dose of guitar music.
So far we have fourteen members who have put their names down to play in the orchestra. If you haven’t already done so and would like to take part please let Ann or myself know at the next meeting. This is really important as sometimes one or two parts have to be redistributed so that we get an equal balance. We have had a situation in the past where we have had about nine people on part three and only two on part two.
If you haven’t been given a black folder please let me know.
We have now been through all of the orchestral music with the exception of Stephen’s dance no. 3.
The list of pieces are as follows:
- Irish Folk Medley by Jeremy Sparks
- Palladio by Karl Jenkins
- Three Dances by Stephen Kenyon
- I Allegro ritmico - II Andante molto sostenuto
- Suite No 2 by J.S. Bach
- II Rondeau - III Sarabande - IV Bourree I & II - VI Menuet
These are not necessarily in the order that we will be playing them.
As we have only two meetings left before the concert I have booked an extra rehearsal at Kinson for June 16th from 5.45 p.m. - we can have the hall up to 10 p.m. (obviously we wont need that long!) We can leave when ever we like as the building will be in use all evening.

Music Through The Ages
Stephen Kenyon gave an outstanding performance at a concert organised by the Coda Music Centre on Saturday 11th May. This event took place at St. Mary Magdalene Church in New Milton. The concert featured the Coda Choir and guest artists David Rendall (Tenor), Diana Montague (Mezzo-Soprano) and Bob Wetton (Organ) and of course Stephen.
Giulio Regondi 1822 - 1872 |
Stephen Played two virtuosic 19th Century pieces -Introduction and Variations on a Theme of Mozart by Sor and Nocturne Reverie by Regondi. Stephen immediately captivated the audience with his total control and graceful playing. The dulcet tones of the Stauffer guitar reached right to the back of the church. The stunningly beautiful Nocturne Reverie with its exquisite tremolo section kept the audience spellbound, so that one could have heard a pin drop. Actually something quite heavier than a pin did drop but Stephen didn’t flinch. The singing was pretty good as well! All proceeds went to the Coda Music Therapy Unit. |
